La forma m\u00e1s habitual de evaluar esto es mediante el <strong data-start=\"763\" data-end=\"788\">\u00cdndice de Masa Corporal (IMC<\/strong>), una sencilla herramienta de cribado utilizada para categorizar <strong data-start=\"833\" data-end=\"850\">el estado ponderal<\/strong>. <\/p><p class=\"\" data-start=\"853\" data-end=\"1131\"><strong data-start=\"853\" data-end=\"877\">El IMC es un c\u00e1lculo<\/strong> basado en el <strong data-start=\"898\" data-end=\"921\">peso<\/strong> de una persona <strong data-start=\"898\" data-end=\"921\">en kilogramos<\/strong> dividido por el cuadrado de su <strong data-start=\"953\" data-end=\"973\">altura en metros<\/strong>. Sin embargo, la obesidad es una forma m\u00e1s grave de <strong data-start=\"1652\" data-end=\"1669\">exceso de peso<\/strong>, que suele implicar un porcentaje significativamente mayor de <strong data-start=\"1726\" data-end=\"1738\">grasa corporal<\/strong>. <\/p><p class=\"\" data-start=\"1741\" data-end=\"2061\">En el caso de <strong data-start=\"1745\" data-end=\"1773\">los ni\u00f1os y adolescentes<\/strong>, <strong data-start=\"1775\" data-end=\"1797\">el IMC infantil y adolescente<\/strong> se interpreta de forma diferente utilizando tablas de <strong data-start=\"1831\" data-end=\"1849\">percentiles<\/strong> de <strong data-start=\"1831\" data-end=\"1849\">IMC<\/strong> que tienen en cuenta la edad y el sexo, reconociendo que los cuerpos de los ni\u00f1os crecen y cambian a ritmos diferentes.
